Girls Varsity Softball vs. Dansville High School

In the first game, Mallory Smith drove in four on three hits to lead Greyhounds past Dansville 16-2 on Tuesday. Smith drove in runs on a double in the sixth and a double in the seventh. Greyhounds scored seven runs in the sixth inning. Riley Cutler, Brooke DePeel, Smith, and Kayleigh DeShais powered the big inning with RBIs.DeShais led things off in the pitcher's circle for Greyhounds. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out ten and walking zero. Greyhounds launched one home run on the day. Izzy Hoag put one out in the third inning. Greyhounds collected 20 hits on the day. Smith, DeShais, Cadence McGuirt, DePeel, Hoag, Zoe Newberry, Maddy Putnam, and Cutler all managed multiple hits for Greyhounds. DePeel, McGuirt, DeShais, and Smith all had three hits to lead Greyhounds. Greyhounds was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Smith had the most chances in the field with ten.
In the second game, Zoe Newberry was dialed in at the plate on Tuesday, tallying four hits and leading Greyhounds to a 9-4 win over Dansville. Newberry singled in the first, doubled in the third, tripled in the fourth, and singled in the fifth. In the first inning, Greyhounds got their offense started when Cadence McGuirt doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Greyhounds pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Taylor Orta singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Newberry tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs, and McGuirt grounded out, scoring one run. Ari Brooks led the Greyhounds to victory on the rubber. Brooks surrendered four runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out seven.
Greyhounds scattered 15 hits in the game. Newberry, Brooks, Maddy Putnam, and Mallory Smith all collected multiple hits for Greyhounds. Newberry went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Greyhounds in hits.
The Varsity Softball team takes on Charlotte at Charlotte today in a make-up conference doubleheader.

Greyhounds stole the lead late in the game in a 15-3 victory over Williamston in Game 1 on Thursday. The game was tied at three with Greyhounds batting in the bottom of the fifth when Hailey DePeel drew a walk, scoring one run.bIzzy Hoag led Greyhounds to victory by driving in five runs. Hoag went 1-for-1 at the plate. Hoag drove in runs on a walk in the fifth and a grand slam in the fifth. Kayleigh DeShais got the win for Greyhounds. DeShais surrendered three runs on six hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking zero. Greyhounds saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Ella Patrick and Brooke DePeel all had multiple hits for Greyhounds. DePeel and Patrick each collected two hits to lead Greyhounds.
In game 2, the Greyhounds easily dispatched Williamston 14-3.

The Varsity girls head to Caledonia on Saturday for their invitational. The first game is at 9:00 am.

In the first game, the Greyhounds defeated Battle Creek United [Lakeview/Harper Creek/Pennfield] 15-0 on Saturday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Maddy Putnam induced a groundout from A Moran to finish off the game.Greyhounds secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the first inning. The offensive firepower by Greyhounds was led by Putnam, Kayleigh DeShais, Izzy Hoag, Zoe Alvarez, and Cadence McGuirt, who all drove in runs. DeShais was credited with the victory for Greyhounds. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on two hits over two innings, striking out three and walking zero. Putnam threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Greyhounds had 13 hits in the game. Mallory Smith, McGuirt, Alvarez, and Putnam each racked up multiple hits for Greyhounds. McGuirt and Smith each managed three hits to lead Greyhounds. Greyhounds didn't commit a single error in the field.
In the second game, Ari Brooks had all the right stuff on Saturday for Greyhounds, allowing zero runs and besting Battle Creek United [Lakeview/Harper Creek/Pennfield] by a score of 15-0. Zoe Alvarez collected four hits in four at bats to help lead Greyhounds to victory. Alvarez singled in the first, singled in the first, singled in the third, and singled in the fourth.

The Varsity softball team travels to Fowlerville on Thursday 5/4 before hosting a make-up conference game against Ionia on Friday 5/5. The Greyhound's season record stands at 6-9.

The Greyhounds fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 12-3 loss to Western on Wednesday. Eaton Rapids tallied three runs in the fourth inning. The big inning was thanks to a home run by Izzy Hoag! The Greyhounds tallied 11 hits in the game. Brooke DePeel and Zoe Alvarez all managed multiple hits. DePeel went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Eaton Rapids in hits.

After a tough loss in the first game, the Greyhounds bounced back and won against an impressive pitcher from Western 5-3! Ari Brooks got the win for the Greyhounds. The righty went four innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out four. Kayleigh DeShais threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. The Greyhounds racked up nine hits on the day. Flora Steien, Putnam, and Mallory Smith each collected multiple hits for Greyhounds. Smith, Putnam, and Steien each collected two hits to lead the team. The Varsity team moves their record to 3-3 on the year.

For the first time in three years, the Greyhound softball team was able to host their own tournament. The past two years were canceled due to the bad weather. Despite a cold start, the Greyhounds finished strong beating Boyne City and Brighton.
In the first game, the Greyhounds could not get past the strong pitching of Marshall losing 10-0. The Greyhounds put together 5 hits including a double from Zoe Alvarez.
In the second game, The base paths were crowded for both offenses in a high-scoring game where the Greyhounds came out on top against Boyne City, 11-6. In the bottom of the third inning, Greyhounds tied things up at six. Izzy Hoag drove in one with a single. Greyhounds pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Cadence McGuirt's sac fly scored one run for Greyhounds. The Hounds tallied five runs in the third inning. Maddy Putnam, McGuirt, and Hoag powered the big inning with RBIs. Putnam was the winning pitcher for Greyhounds. The right-hander went five innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, striking out three and walking one. Ari Brooks threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. The Hounds socked one home run on the day. Putnam had a four-bagger in the third inning. Greyhounds tallied 12 hits in the game. Hoag, Zoe Alvarez, and Flora Steien all collected multiple hits for Greyhounds. Hoag led the team with three hits in four at-bats. The Greyhounds didn't commit a single error in the field. Alvarez had the most chances in the field with six.
In the third game, the Hounds dominated the Bulldogs from the start, scoring 10 runs in the first four innings. Brighton scored three late to make the score close ending in a 10-6 victory for the Greyhounds. Ari Brooks was the winning pitcher for Greyhounds. Brooks went seven innings, allowing six runs on 13 hits and striking out five. The Greyhounds collected ten hits. Zoe Alvarez, Mallory Smith, and Brooke DePeel all collected multiple hits for Greyhounds.
The Varsity Softball team moves their record to 2-2 on the year.
Both the JV and Varsity softball teams take on Parma Western on Wednesday for a doubleheader. The Varsity team will be on the road and the JV team will host the Panthers. Both games start at 4 pm.
Girls Varsity Softball vs. Holt Senior High School

Tuesday's game against Holt was a heartbreaker for Greyhounds, as they lost the lead late in a 5-4 defeat. The game was tied at two with Holt batting in the bottom of the sixth when Holt singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.
Mallory Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Greyhounds in hits.
The second game was called due to lightning.
The Greyhounds host their invitational on Saturday starting at 10 am.
