Clio @ Eaton Rapids (JV)
1 year ago | Jake Wilkinson
Win: 28 - 20
The home opener for the JV Greyhounds was nothing less than an exciting action packed game by both teams. The Mustangs of Clio came from a ways away and found themselves down 22-0 midway through the 2nd quarter. However, the resiliency of this Clio team found themselves only down by 8 points at the half. Once the teams found the field again, they traded third quarter touchdowns making it 28-20 before entering a chess match on defense that saw the last 14+ minutes of the game go back and forth with neither team able to find the end-zone. The final drive of the game saw the Mustangs marching down the field on the ground but ultimately they couldn't get past the Greyhounds 35 yard line before time expired as they were trying to get the ball off.    The JV Hounds offense was charged by the play of Keegan Gochenour (Freshman QB) who accounted for 161 Yards and 2 of the Hounds Touchdowns through the air, finding Carvontae Sheppard (Sophmore WR) on a 28 Yard Pass and Tristan Cataline (Sophmore WR) on a 50 Yard Pass. Hayden Hendrickson (Freshman HB) was a workhorse on the ground carrying the ball 18 times for 52 yards and having the ball find him through the air a team high of 4 times for 76 yards. Marvin Deh (Junior WR) entered the game on offense in the 3rd quarter for his only touch of the day to go 85 yards to the house on the ground while breaking a ridiculous amount of tackles before breaking into open grass. The offense was not lacking the big plays tonight and kept the crowd excited most of the night. The defense found early success and ultimately hunkered down to stop the "what could've been" game tying drive at the end of the game. However while forcing 4 Fumbles early in the game, along with 3 Unforced Fumbles by the Clio offense, they were certainly helped out tonight by their aggressive nature and lock down, resilient attitude.    Both offense and defense have looked good for the JV Hounds thus far in the season, but it's still early and there is a tough away test coming up with the Portland Raiders next Thursday. This will likely prove to be the toughest matchup for them thus far but it's sure to be an exciting game. We welcome you all to join us on Thursday, September 8th in Portland to see if these JV Hounds can continue their undefeated streak as they once again try to go (1-0).

Eaton Rapids (JV) @ Northwest Jackson (JV) Game Summary

Win: 30 - 12
After a back and forth first half that saw both teams trade scores on 4 of 6 possessions, and a half that ended with an Eaton Rapids lead 12-14, the Hounds came out on fire in the second half. The Greyhounds found themselves in the end-zone on their first two possesions of the second half while holding Northwest to 0 points in the second half. At the end of the game after a strong defensive stand on the last Northwest drive, Eaton Rapids found themselves holding onto the ball as the clock hit 0:00. With a final score of 30-12, the JV Eaton Rapids Hounds will start the season (1-0) with a short week ahead before a home date with Clio(0-1), who lost a tight one against Yale (MI) 22-20, on Wednesday, August 31st at 6:30pm.  The offense was lead by a 4 headed monsterous attack by Keegan Gochenour (Freshman QB), Hayden Hendrickson (Freshman RB), Carvontae Sheppard (Sophomore WR), and Jackson White (Freshman WR). Gochenour threw a marvelous 13/15 for 157 yards and 4 Touchdowns, along with racking up 24 yards on the ground. Hendrickson lead the backfield with 13 carries for 56 yards while also racking up 22 yards on 3 catches with a Touchdown to start the game, also accounted for 35 return yards on two kickoffs. Sheppard was responsible for 34 yards on the ground, 17 yards on punt returns, while also making the play of the game early in the 4th quarter, when he pulled down a tipped pass that he weaved in and out of defenders taking it for 44 yards to the house. White was responsible for 17 yards on his sole kick return along with 4 catches 42 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air.  Defensively, the Hounds were lights out in the second half. Tristan Cataline (Sophmore LB) accounted for 10 total tackles and a Forced Fumble that was recovered by Jackson White. Keegan Gochenour (Freshman S) shined on defense as well  accounting for 6 total tackles, 3 PBUs, and an Interception to end the first half. We also saw Carvontae Sheppard (Freshman CB) shine on the defensive side of the ball as well partaking in 3 tackles while returning an early 2nd half Interception for 34 yards that likely took the wind out of Northwest's offense.  Overall the JV Hounds enjoyed a hard fought victory that allowed them to take revenge on Northwest Jackson after last years 54-0 defeat at home. This one won't be forgotten for these young Hounds who pride themselves on going (1-0) after a massive effort throughout the offseason and preseason by focusing on going 1-0 and winning the day at every single practice, scrimmage, and gathering. The future is bright for the next generation on Hounds.  Thank you to everyone that came out, and we hope to see you, your family, and friends next week as we welcome the Clio Mustangs to Alumni Stadium.
