Boys Ice Hockey finish off a tough week!

Game Date
Feb 7, 2024

The Eastside Stars finished off another busy week with a win, tie, and loss over a 3-game stretch, taking their overall record to 13-6-4 with 2 games remaining in the regular season.

On Wednesday, Feb 7, the Stars traveled to Kalamazoo to face off against the Portage Muskies in a SCHSHL game.  After being down by a goal throughout the 1st period and most of the 2nd, Jack Drouare (EL) put the Stars on the board with a short-handed goal on a play set up by Chase Parrott (Holt).  However, the Muskies responded shortly thereafter to take the lead again going into the 3rd period.  The determined Stars battled back when Jack Monaghan (ER) scored with 3:34 remaining in regulation, assisted by Quinton Bell (Okemos) and Jonny Stohr (ER) to tie the game at 2-2, sending the game into overtime - the Stars 3rd overtime game in a row.  Despite several scoring opportunities in the extra period, the score remained tied with a final score of 2-2.  Leland Alvarez (Okemos) earned the win with 19 saves in the contest.

On Friday, Feb 9, the Stars hosted a very strong Sparta team in a non-league match.  The Sparta team came into town with a record of 20-3 and played a fast paced game, scoring 2 goals each in the 1st and 2nd periods of play.  Never giving up, however, Jack Monaghan put the Stars on the board with a goal in the 3rd period, assisted by Jonny Stohr, but it wasn't enough as the Stars fell to the Spartans by a final score of 4-1.  Reed Drouare (EL) made 30 saves in net for the Stars.

On Saturday, Feb 10, the Stars traveled back to Kalamazoo to face off against the Kalamazoo Eagles in the league-wide Autism Awareness Event.  After being down 1-0 early in the game, the Stars responded with 4 unanswered goals to earn the win by a final score of 4-1.  Jack Monaghan led all scorers with 1 goal + 2 assists, while Evan McCreary (Okemos) notched 2 goals and Jonny Stohr added 2 assists.  To round out the scoring, Chase Parrott added a short-handed goal assisted by Jack Douare, while Reed Drouare earned the win in goal, stopping 19 saves in the contest.

The Stars complete regular season play this week hosting 2 home games against Jackson Lumen Christi (Black Out Theme) in their final league game at 8 pm on Friday, Feb 16 and Jenison at 7 pm on Saturday, Feb 17.
