The Eastside Stars had a busy week facing off in 3 important league games.

On Wednesday, Jan 17, the Stars traveled to Kalamazoo to take on the Kalamazoo Eagles.  The Holt tandem of Nolan Trainor and Chase Parrott each notched 1 goal a piece for the Stars, while Evan Warner (Haslett) added assists on both of the goals.  The Okemos trio of Michael Grant (goal), Quinton Bell (assist), and Hayden Stone (assist) rounded out the scoring for the Stars in a 3-0 win over the Eagles.  Leland Alvarez (Okemos) earned the shutout win, making 15 saves in the contest.

 

On Friday, Jan 19, the Stars faced off in the rematch against their cross-town rivals, Capital City Capitals, at East Lansing Ice Cube.  The Stars dominated the game from the drop of the first puck, blanking the Capitals by a score of 6-0.  Jack Monaghan (ER) led all scorers with 1 goal and 3 assists on the night, while Kyle Raynor (Holt) notched 3 points with 2 goals and 1 assist.  Evan Warner, Chase Parrott, and Nolan Trainor each added 1 goal a piece, while Evan McCreary (Okemos) earned a "playmaker" (3 assists), Jack Drouare (EL) added 2 assists, and Jonny Stohr (ER) and Charlie Winslow (Okemos) contributed to the scoring with 1 assist each.  Reed Drouare (EL) earned the shutout win by stopping all 22 shots on goal.

 

On Saturday, Jan 20, the Stars traveled back to Kalamazoo to face off against the Mattawan Wildcats.  Jonny Stohr kicked off the scoring in the 1st period for the Stars, with Jack Monaghan and Kyle Raynor notching assists on the play, however, the Mattawan team answered less than a minute later, tying the score at 1-1.  Not to be outdone, the Stars added 1 more goal in the period with Jack Drouare banging home a rebound with assists from Beckett Fast (EL) and Nolan Trainor.  The score remained 2-1 through the 2nd and most of the 3rd period, however, Mattawan buried a goal late in the game to tie the score at 2-2 where it remained through the overtime period, resulting in a tie for the Stars.  Reed Drouare and Leland Alvarez shared time between the pipes, stopping 32 of 34 shots.  

 

The Stars earned 5 out of 6 points for the week, taking their record to 8-4-3 overall, and 5-3-1 in league play sitting at the top of the SCHSHL division standings.  https://www.mihshockeyhub.com/page/show/8246150?subseason=909980&tab=content

 

The Stars participate in the Chelsea Showcase this week, facing off on Thursday, Jan 15 against Western-Pickney at 3pm and on Saturday, Jan 27 - 8:15pm vs. L'anse Creuse Unified.  All games will be played at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea.  One additional scheduling note - the Stars game vs. Midland Dow was rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 30 - 5pm at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing.
